Reporting Incidents

Who to Contact for Reporting Incidents

Because of the decentralized nature of the University of Chicago campus, it is sometimes difficult for students to know who to contact for reporting bias incidents, unlawful discrimination and harassment, or hate crimes. Currently on campus, students can access several formal and informal channels to assist when such incidents occur. To better document an incident, students should feel free to print and fill out a Recording Document to bring to one of the administrators recommended on this website. Click here to view and print the document.

The table below identifies University administrators and staff who serve as resources for students wishing to report an incident that has occurred in a particular location or that has involved a campus organization or group. If an incident does not fit within the realms highlighted below, or if the incident doesn’t appear in the table, students should be aware that four offices at the University will handle complaints or concerns in general: your academic area Dean of Students, the Office of the Vice-President and Dean of Students in the University, the Office of the Provost (particularly for issues involving faculty, administration, and staff), the Office of the Student Ombudsperson. In the case of unlawful discrimination or harassment, students should contact an Unlawful Harassment Complaint Advisor.
